Composite Dental Fillings

At Pro Smiles OC, Dr. Ivan Ho understands that every patient wants a smile that looks as healthy as it feels. Therefore, we always consider dental aesthetics whenever we are preparing a treatment plan for our patients. Dr. Ho uses only tooth-colored, safe and durable materials to fill your teeth when he restores teeth with cavities.

WE ONLY USE BEAUTIFUL AND BIOCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS

There are more than 7000 different types of materials and available brands for dentists to use when restoring damaged teeth. According to Dr. Ivan Ho, each patient has individual dental treatment needs, therefore, we cannot use the same materials for every patient. We take great care to test all of our patients for allergies or adverse reactions before choosing to use a restorative material.

Modern dental technology offers dentists a wide array of dental materials that can be perfectly color- and shade-matched to your teeth. We use the highest quality dental materials to make sure that our tooth-colored fillings are safe, durable and beautiful.

TOOTH-COLORED FILLINGS DO NOT JUST LOOK BETTER — THEY ARE ALSO BETTER FOR YOU

Many patients visit us asking about the “silver amalgam” fillings that are considerably cheaper than tooth-colored fillings. We do not recommend silver amalgam fillings as they are not safe for use inside the oral cavity. They are comprised of around 50% mercury, which is a very toxic material even in small amounts. Due to its poisonous nature, mercury can have an adverse effect on the body’s systems, including the immune, urinary, cardiac, respiratory and digestive systems.

Research has shown that mercury can induce brain cell deterioration identical to that seen in people living with Alzheimer’s disease. Therefore, keeping the safety and health of his patients in mind — and with so many other, better and safer choices available — we choose not to offer mercury-containing fillings to our patients.
