Using only beautiful materials that are compatible with your body

There are more than 7,000 different types of materials and available brands for dentists to use when restoring damaged teeth. According to a smile transformation specialist, Dr. Ivan Ho, each patient has individual dental treatment needs; therefore, we cannot use the same materials for every patient. Dr. Ivan Ho takes great care to test all his patients for allergies or adverse reactions before choosing to use a restorative material.

Modern Dental technology offers dentists with a wide array of dental materials that can be perfectly color and shade-matched to your teeth. We use the highest quality dental materials to make sure that our tooth colored fillings are safe, durable, and beautiful.

Tooth colored fillings don’t just look better. They are also better for you.

Many patients visit Dr. Ivan Ho, asking about the “silver amalgam” fillings that are considerably cheaper than tooth colored fillings. Dr. Ivan does not recommend “silver” amalgam fillings as they are not safe for use inside the oral cavity; they comprise around 50% mercury – a very toxic material, even in small amounts. Due to its poisonous nature, mercury can have an adverse effect on the body systems, including the immune, urinary, cardiac, respiratory, and digestive systems.

Research has shown that mercury can induce brain cell deterioration identical to that seen in people living with Alzheimer’s disease. Therefore, keeping the safety and health of his patients in mind – and with so many other, better and safer choices available – Dr. Ivan Ho chooses not to offer mercury-containing tooth colored fillings to his patients.

Reasons for tooth colored fillings:

  • Chipped teeth.
  • Closing space between two teeth.
  • Cracked or broken teeth.
  • Decayed teeth.
  • Worn teeth.

How are tooth colored fillings placed?

Composite fillings or tooth colored fillings are usually placed in one appointment.  While the tooth is numb, your dentist will remove decay as necessary.  The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new tooth colored filling is placed.  If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection.  The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function.

It is normal to experience sensitivity to hot and cold when composite fillings are first placed, however this will subside shortly after your tooth acclimates to the new filling.

You will be given care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment.  Good oral hygiene practices, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new dental fillings.
